چکیده

In the manufacturing industry, more and more plate parts are inspected to detect tiny defects. As the rate of manufacturing increases, new and innovative inspection methods are required. This paper presents the method and results for inspecting sputtering targets, which are typically used in LCD manufacturing. The flaws are either inclusions or disbonds, in the range of 0.5mm in diameter, or thin slits in the range of 5μm by 5mm long. Over the years, the technique progressed from using single element probes with high speed mechanical scanners to conventional phased array with electronic scanning. This improvement resulted in productivity increases by a factor of more than 4. However, Volume Focusing offers a new breakthrough in phased array technology, exceeding conventional phased array scanning speeds by a factor of 4.

Phased array ultrasonic imaging using an improved beamforming based total focusing method for non destructive test

One of the novel ultrasonic phased array based scanning methods for ultrasonic imaging in non-destructive test is total focusing method (TFM). This method employs maximum available information of the phased array elements and leads to an improved defect detection accuracy compared to conventional scanning methods. Despite its high detection accuracy, TFM behaves weak in distinguishing the real ...

Thick Part Inspection using Volume Focusing Technique and Large Aperture Phased Array

In the nuclear maintenance field, there are cases where accessing a location where flaws must be tracked can only be done through a long UT path. In such cases, not only the lateral resolution, but also the inspection scanning time becomes an issue. This paper presents an original solution based on using large apertures and the Volume Focusing technique, which allows significant gain in inspect...

Performance of Target Detection in Phased-MIMO Radars

In this paper, the problem of target detection in phased-MIMO radars is considered and target detection performance of phased-MIMO radars is compared with MIMO and phased-array radars. Phased-MIMO radars combine advantages of the MIMO and phased-array radars. In these radars, the transmit array will be partitioned into a number of subarrays that are allowed to overlap and each subarray transmit...

On the Use of Advanced UT Phased Array Methodology and Equipment

Phased array UT techniques are being used for inspections in nuclear and conventional power plants for more than 10 years. Applications involving simple linear arrays, using either sectorial scanning or multiple-angle raster scanning, are now commonly used and accepted. But the power generation industry is continuously looking for inspection solutions to more challenging inspection configuratio...
